The Badminton Union St. Peter / AU is an Austrian badminton club .

history

Karl Kaindl brought badminton - the competition modification of shuttlecock - to the secondary school in St. Peter in der Au , where this new sport was initially played once a week by the teachers for physical exercise. The Badminton Section was founded on January 26th, 1990, and its statutes included the maintenance of badminton sport and socializing. The founding members were Rosemarie Gölzner, Ulrike Handstanger, Erich Greiner, Karl Kaindl, Karlheinz Vinkov and Otto Wendlik.

Championship games

On May 9, 1994, the section joined the Sport Union St. Peter / AU and the Austrian Badminton Association and Otto Wendlik took over the management of the section. For the first time was in the 1994/95 season participated in the Lower Austria team championship. The first championship game was played on October 8, 1994 against SKVg Pottenbrunn in the Carl-Zeller -Halle and ended with a narrow 3: 5 defeat. The youngsters also started the competition on October 26, 1994 against BC St. Pölten with the youth team and had to pay the hard way with a clear 8-0.

Trainer

With Johann and Oliver Stastny (former national league players ), Irina and Vladimir Serov (former Russian and Austrian national champions as well as winners of international tournaments) and Tariq Farooq (former Pakistani top player, world and European senior champions), the badminton section was able to attract top people as coaches laid the foundation for sporting success.

successes

The general class team started with one team, followed by a second team from 1996/97, a third team in 99/2000 and a fourth team in 08/09. From the 2002/03 season, the first team in the Lower Austrian State League also played the second team a year later. With a 2nd place in the 04/05 season, the best placement was achieved here. 15 championship titles in the general class have already been won. In the 15/16 season, after being promoted back to the regional league, the club surprisingly played for the Lower Austrian state championship and the associated qualification for the Bundesliga PlayOff.

With Roland Bauer, a player from Union St. Peter / Au achieved the national title in the men's individual SK35 + in 2009 and in the following year in a mix with Birgit Janisch. Over the years, 7 national championship titles in the general area could also be fought. With the support of the companies Bachleitner, Möbel Polt, Hinterholzer, Perger and EK Design, it was possible to ensure the appearance in a great outfit.

Junior area

The junior area has always been the main concern of the section, so it became a supporting pillar in the Lower Austrian junior badminton. With over 100 tournament participation annually, St. Peters talents show presence all over Austria. Otto Wendlik's years of development work was rewarded with 17 national championship titles and almost 100 podium places at Lower Austria state championships as well as a lot of tournament victories at regional or state level.

In the junior area, the cooperation with the St. Peter / Au secondary school is also responsible for the many years of success. The secondary school has been 9 times the Lower Austrian School Cup winner of the lower grades and achieved second place at the Federal Championships in 2002 in Vöcklabruck as the best result.

Board

In 2008, Christoph Streißlberger took over the management of the section from Otto Wendlik, who had held it since 1994. With Susanne Schlachter as secretary, Karl Schlachter as speaker, deputy for rankings and Otto Wendlik as grassroots sports officer, St.Peter / Au takes on responsibility on the board of the Lower Austrian Badminton Association from 1997. Otto Wendlik becomes Austrian school sports advisor for badminton and in 2006 organized the federal championships at Hochkar with his team from St.Peter / Au. Karl Schlachter is President of the Lower Austrian Badminton Association from May 2005 to April 2012. Since 2012, after Susanne and Karl Schlachter left, Philipp Fritz joined the board of the NÖBV.
