Badoo is an international online community .

The portal was developed by the Russian developed entrepreneur Andrey Andreev and has existed since 2006. The company is based in London district of Soho . In April 2011 Badoo reached 114 million registered users. In addition to the web version of the community, Badoo also offers its own smartphone applications for the iPhone, Windows Phone and Android devices. The iPhone app is the most widely used flirt app for the iPhone, while Android users prefer two other apps over the Badoo app. Almost a year later, with a brand value of 3.7 billion US dollars, it was ranked sixth among the most valuable social media brands in the world, according to a study by the HWZ Hochschule für Wirtschaft Zürich and the brand consultancy BV4 Brand Value Rating Agency. The site is financed through a freemium model , which means that basic contact functions are free, optimized search functions are chargeable.

Badoo is blocked in the United Arab Emirates and Iran .

criticism

In the case of the Swiss Jacqueline Lüthi, her photos were used for a third-party profile without consent. Badoo did not respond to Lüthi's requests to stop the use of images; only an interference of the consumer protection program Kassensturz of the Swiss television brought success.

In a 2009 study by the University of Cambridge that compared the privacy of 45 social networks, Badoo was rated the worst.

Users are offered special functions if they provide Badoo with the access data for their mail accounts and other social media platforms in order to send messages to their contacts. The spam messages can only be read by the recipients if they also join Badoo.
