The Stirling Station is a train station in the Scottish city of Stirling in the same council area . In 1978 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists, initially in category B. The upgrade to the highest monument category A took place in 1993.

history

In order to better connect the cities of Stirling and Perth in particular to the Central Belt , the Scottish Central Railway was built from 1845 onwards. Stirling station on this route was opened on March 1, 1848. On July 1, 1852, an adjacent station on the Stirling – Dunfermline railway went into operation. Both stations merged at a later date. Between 1912 and 1915 the station was given a new location on the same station building . The Scottish architect James Miller , who also designed the now listed Wemyss Bay station, is responsible for the design . W. A. ​​Paterson supported him as an engineer of the Caledonian Railway in the planning.

Originally built to connect Stirling to the Central Belt, the station is now on the Highland Main Line , which can also be used to reach destinations in the Highlands directly. In addition to the Caledonian Sleeper coming from London , trains on the Edinburgh – Dunblane railway and the regional Croy Line also stop in Stirling. The station has nine platforms, two of which are not used.
