The station Thanaleng (also train station Dongphosy ) is a terminal station in the village Dongphosy in the prefecture of Vientiane .

Geographical location

The station is located in the village of Dongphosy, Hadxaifong District, about 20 km east of Vientiane , the capital of Laos . But it was named after the border town of Thanaleng. It is located about 4 km north of the border between Laos and Thailand , which forms the Mekong and which the Nong Khai – Thanaleng railway line crosses here on the First Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge.

history

On March 20, 2004, an agreement was signed between the Thai and Laotian governments to extend the northeast line of the Thai State Railway from Nong Khai to Thanalaeng, which also included the construction of the station. The station opened on March 5, 2009. Originally intended for pure use as a passenger station, the station is now also used for freight transport,

General

Thanaleng station is currently the operational end point of the Nong Khai – Vientiane railway coming from Thailand. Thanaleng is currently the only train station on Laotian territory. This is also where the Laotian immigration control takes place. A railway line to China is under construction. It is scheduled to open in 2021.

traffic

A shuttle train runs twice a day between Nong Khai and Thanaleng stations. Also occasionally the Eastern and Oriental Express .
