The Aarau – Suhr line was opened on September 6, 1877 by the Swiss National Railway. The Zofingen – Wettingen railway line was opened on the same day . The railway company went but already in 1878 in bankruptcy , after which the distance from the Swiss Northeastern Railway was taken over, which was nationalized in 1902 and the Swiss Federal Railways opened.
The line was electrified on July 15, 1946 with 15 kV 16 ⅔ Hz.
On December 12, 2004, the line was shut down and then dismantled so that the meter-gauge Wynental and Suhrental railway, which then ran in the street, can be relocated to the freed up route of the former standard-gauge line. The corresponding work began in 2008 and lasted two years. WSB trains have been running on the new route since November 22, 2010.
