The railway line Bånghammar-Kloten ( Bånghammars-Klotens Järnväg - BKJ) was a standard-gauge railway line in Sweden . It was built by Klotens AB, the Klotenverken .
history
On December 11, 1874, the major shareholder of Grängesbergs gruvaktiebolag , Carl Fredrik Liljevalch (dj), applied for a concession for a 22-kilometer standard-gauge railway line between the Bånghammar station on the Frövi-Ludvika Järnväg (FLJ), which opened on October 8, 1873, and the industrial plant in Kloten, the Klotenverken (ironworks and foundry). The railway was built between 1874 and 1876 under the direction of Gustaf M. Dahlström. The cost was around 850,000 crowns .
The line was opened on December 25, 1875 for provisional freight traffic , and on September 20, 1877, the line was opened for general freight and passenger traffic.
Rails weighing between 17 and 30 kilograms per meter were laid on the route . Operational management was first carried out with the vehicles of the Frövi – Ludvika Järnväg line operated by the Swedish Central Railway Co. Ltd , and later by the Trafikaktiebolaget Grängesberg – Oxelösunds Järnvägar (TGOJ).

To maintain the locomotives, a locomotive shed with a turntable with a diameter of five meters was built in Bånghammar in 1876 . This locomotive shed was demolished after the line was closed. A two-tier round shed, also with a 5-meter turntable, and a water tower were built in Kloten. This shed is still preserved today. The Kloten AB offices were also housed in the Kloten station, which has also been preserved .
The traffic on the route was mainly made up of freight trains. The consistently low passenger traffic in the 1914 timetable consisted of a pair of passenger trains running Monday through Friday.
In 1899, Klotenverken was nationalized with the associated railway line. Domänverket took over the administration . The management was not affected by the nationalization and remained in the hands of FLJ and TGOJ.
The Kloten blast furnace was shut down in 1910. As a result, the transport services were lower. In May 1934 all traffic on the line ended and the railway facilities were dismantled. Only the track between Bånghammar and Kölsjön was still in place until 1937.
