The Den Chai – Chiang Rai railway is a project to build a new line in northern Thailand .

The city ​​of Chiang Rai , located far in the north of Thailand, only about 30 km from the Laotian and Burmese borders, is to be connected to the Thai rail network with this project. The 246 km long new line is to branch off from the northern line in Den Chai . The long-term goal was rail connections to Burma and Laos and the People's Republic of China .

In 1997 the new building was approved by the government and in 2001 the procurement of the necessary land began. However, the project then got stuck due to a lack of money.
