Traction current converter Saalach power plant

The Saalach power plant traction current converter was the first system to couple the traction current network with the public electricity network using mercury-vapor converters . It was located in the Saalach power station and was able to transfer an output of 1  MVA . The system built by Siemens was purely a test system, which was in operation in 1934/1935. The experience with this system led to the construction of the traction current converter in the Badischer Bahnhof in Basel .
