Balambaras

Balambaras ( Ethiop . ባላምባራስ ) is an old military title at the court of the emperors of Ethiopia . According to tradition, it was introduced by Emperor David I after 1382 . Initially, the title was also used by commanders of mountain fortresses. The Balambaras later became an honorary title, for example for Fitawrari appointed by provincial rulers and taken over in imperial services .
