Balance regulator

Stereo amplifier with adjusters

A balance control is used to adjust the volume ratio of the two sound channels on a stereo amplifier . This allows the system to be adapted to any asymmetrical conditions in the playback room.

From a technical point of view, one should actually speak of a balance adjuster , since there is no regulation in the narrower sense, but the language has become common.

On simple stereo amplifiers there are often four controls next to each other: volume, balance, highs and lows, the latter for tone control .

Technically, the setting is implemented using additional, counter-rotating volume potentiometers or digital actuators in both channels.
