Balhousie Castle is a mansion in Perth (on Hay Street , originally some 100 meters north of the medieval city) in the Scottish administrative division of Perth and Kinross .

The house dates from 1631, although its origins are said to go back another 300 years. Originally it was the seat of the Earls of Kinnoull and stood in a fence, together with outbuildings, orchards, etc., on a terrace above North Inch Park .

After it was neglected and dilapidated at the beginning of the 19th century, it was “restored” (but actually practically rebuilt) by the architect '' David Smart '' in 1862/1863 and redesigned and expanded in the Scottish Baronial Style. Only parts of the quarry stone wall on the east side of the original house remained.

In 1962, the regimental headquarters and museum of the Black Watch were installed in Balhousie Castle . The history of the regiment from 1739 to the present day is presented in the museum. The Black Watch Heritage Appeal was issued in September 2009 to raise over £ 3.2 million for the renovation of Balhousie Castle as the permanent location for the Black Watch Museum and Archives . The regiment's trustees bought the mansion in January 2009.
