Balım Sultan

Balim Sultan ( Turkish Balım Sultan , * 1457 in Dimetoka , † 1517 in the Ottoman Empire ) was the founder of the Sufi order of the Bektaschi .

He is considered to be the greatest personality in the Bektashi order after Haji Bektash Wali ( Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli ), the mystical preacher. Balım Sultan is known as the "Second Pir ". He was born in 1457 in the town of Dimetoka, now Didymoticho , Greece . His father was Mürsel Baba and his mother was a Serbian - Bulgarian princess. He named the Sufi order after Hajji Bektash Weli. Since he is considered a teacher of Alevism and did not found his own order, Balım Sultan founded the Sufi order of the Bektashi and is considered the real founder of the community.
