The Balise Transmission Module (BTM) is part of a punctiform transmission system for safety-relevant data between railway vehicles and the signaling line equipment. The Balise Transmission Module is mounted under the vehicle, its counterpart on the track side is the Eurobalise .

Supported balises

Eurobalise

Every BTM supports Eurobalises. These work with a carrier frequency of 27.095 MHz with FSK modulation. There are Eurobalises that transmit either a 341-bit or a 1023-bit data word.

KVB and EBICAB 700/900

In addition to the Eurobalise, BTMs often also support the balises of the conventional KVB or Ebicab700 / 900 train control systems ; these work with the carrier frequency 27.115 MHz with ASK modulation. With such a BTM it is possible to equip vehicles with ETCS equipment inexpensively with a Specific Transmission Module to support these conventional systems.
