Ballet Teatro Español

The Ballet Teatro Español is a Spanish ballet company .

The company was founded in 1960 by Manuela Aguilar and Rafael Aguilar as a group with seven artists in Paris . The ensemble now consists of 35 ballet dancers , musicians and singers who exclusively present choreographies by their founder. All dancers have a solid education in classical and Spanish dance as well as in flamenco. The musicians and singers are considered to be the best in the country.

Rafael Aguilar founded his very own artistic style and way of doing theater . He combined elements of classical ballet, contemporary dance and flamenco with classical Spanish dance. After “El Rango” his productions opened up to the big stages of the world and presented his flamenco adaptation of Carmen at the opera in Paris-Bercy, La Scala in Milan and other famous theaters. He died in 1995 during a guest appearance in Madrid.

In 2007 the Ballet Teatro Español toured Germany with its dance show Bolero Flamenco .
