Ballymote ( Irish Baile an Mhóta ) is a town in County Sligo in Ireland . At the 2016 census, it had 1,549 inhabitants.

history

The city originated around Ballymote Castle , built in 1300 by Richard de Burgh . This was probably the largest facility in Connacht .

Transport links

Ballymote is on the Dublin to Sligo railway line and is served by trains several times a day.

The state bus company Bus Éireann only operates a few days a week,

The regional roads R293, R295 and R296 run through the town.
