A Baltic star is a star-shaped ornament embroidered in silver or gold on the top of the student hats ("lids"), which are worn by members of Baltic student associations as part of their color . Traditionally, every Baltic connection has its own design. The representation can vary widely: octagonal star, two nested stars, etc. The connecting circle is also partly part of the Baltic star .

The places of origin are Dorpat and Riga , but also Moscow and Saint Petersburg .
