Bambari is the fifth largest city in the Central African Republic . 41,356 inhabitants live in the city (2003). It is the capital of the prefecture of Ouaka and is located at 475 m above sea level on the Ouaka River . Bambari is an important trading city and also has an airport.

history

As part of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), UN soldiers from Portugal are also stationed in the city . Rebels from the Front Populaire pour la Renaissance de la Centrafrique (FPRC) attacked the city sporadically in December 2018 and on January 9, 2019.
