Klaus Liebscher

Klaus Liebscher (born July 12, 1939 in Vienna ) is an Austrian lawyer and bank director.

Life

After graduating from high school in Salzburg, Klaus Liebscher studied law at the University of Vienna and joined Genossenschaftliche Zentralbank AG (today: Raiffeisen Zentralbank Österreich AG ) in 1968 . In 1977 Liebscher was promoted to the board, from 1988 to 1995 he took over the office of general director and became president of the Vienna Stock Exchange Chamber. At the same time, he was on the supervisory boards of various banks and companies. In 1995 Liebscher moved to the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) as President . With the establishment of the European Central Bank (ECB) in June 1998, Liebscher became governor of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank and thus a member of the Governing Council, in which the presidents of all national central banks (NCBs) of the euro area countries are represented. Klaus Liebscher is chairman of the "Kaprun" mediation commission.

On September 1, 2008, Klaus Liebscher was replaced by Ewald Nowotny as governor of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank. From November 11, 2008 until the company's dissolution on June 30, 2016, Liebscher was CEO of Finanzmarktbeteiligung Aktiengesellschaft .

Liebscher is a member of the K.Ö.HV Nordgau Wien in the ÖCV .

In September 2019, Liebscher resigned from his position as President of the Austrian Society for European Politics (ÖGfE) after eleven years . His successor was Ewald Nowotny. Liebscher was elected honorary president by the ÖGfE general assembly.
