Austrian Society for European Politics

The Austrian Society for European Politics (ÖGfE) , founded in 1991, is a politically independent association based on social partnerships in Vienna.

The objectives of the Austrian Society for European Policy are the promotion and support of a sustainable EU information policy and the dialogue on current European policy issues and their relevance for Austria.

The company is financed by the Oesterreichische Nationalbank and the Austrian social partners.

The ÖGfE's field of activity includes the publication of analyzes and statements on current European political issues, the organization of lectures (Europa Club Wien, Europa Club Uni) and seminars, opinion research (Austria-wide surveys), the publication of the scientific publication series "ÖGfE-Policy Briefs", the creation of topic fact sheets and regular monitoring of the voting behavior of the Austrian MEPs. The ÖGfE creates information offers for schools (traveling exhibitions, folders) and holds workshops (among others) at vocational schools. The ÖGfE has a European network and is a member of the European Policy Institute Network (EPIN) and an associated member of the Trans European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA).

The general secretary of the ÖGfE is Paul Schmidt, former deputy head of the representative office of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank in Brussels. Klaus Liebscher was President of the Society until September 2019 ; Vice-presidents are Mariana Kühnel and Valentin Wedl. In the committees of the ÖGfE are u. a. Eva Nowotny , Johann Farnleitner and Miguel Herz-Kestranek represented.

In September 2019, Ewald Nowotny was elected President of the ÖGfE by the board. Klaus Liebscher , who resigned from his position as President after eleven years, was elected Honorary President by the ÖGfE General Assembly.
