Bamboo forest school

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bamboo Forest School of the Vietnamese Mahayana - Buddhism goes to the teacher Lieu Quan back (the ascetic of the bamboo forest). In 1295 he resigned as King Anh Tong of the Vietnamese sub-kingdom Viet to devote his life to the practice and teaching of the Buddha . He received his monk name Lieu Quan when he was ordained a monk on Mount Yen Tu , on which an important temple complex was later built.

From 1304 on he taught Buddhism in Viet.

His main student was Phap Loa , second patriarch of the Bamboo Forest School. At the beginning of the 14th century he taught the "Presentation of Great Wisdom" and published the first meditation manual in Viet.

The Bao An Temple became the main center of Buddhism in Viet at the behest of the king as early as 1313 and the Buddhist canon was printed in the Viet language Chu-Som .
