Ban Ang
Ban Ang is an archaeological site in the plains of the clay jugs in the highlands of Laos .
Excavation history
The first excavations took place in the early thirties and were carried out by the French archaeologist Madeleine Colani .
Finds
In the central area of the site there is a mound that contains a cremation site with two groups of graves with stone jars. The smaller group is on a raised place and was interpreted as a grave site for a ruling class. In addition to cowries , bronze bells and bracelets and knives, rings made of glass and carnelian were found as grave goods . Arrow and spearheads made of iron indicate the strong hunting activities of the inhabitants. Bronze was apparently cast locally, as evidenced by the remains of clay pits.
