The Banco Português de Negócios , shortly BPN was a Portuguese private bank, especially in the area of investment banking has been active. It was based in Porto . Francisco Bandeira was president of the BNP.

The bank has been embroiled in a scandal since 2005. It was about tax evasion and money laundering . Due to a lack of liquidity , the bank was nationalized three years later under the umbrella of the Portuguese savings bank Caixa Geral de Depósitos .

In March 2012, the Portuguese state sold BPN for 40 million euros to Banco BIC Português , which has the daughter of the President of Angola, Isabel dos Santos , and the richest man in Portugal, Américo Amorim , as shareholders .
