The euro Bic (proper spelling EuroBIC) (before July 2017 Banco BIC Português , SA (BIC)) is an Angolan private bank in Portugal . Not to be confused with the Portuguese bank Banco BIG .

It was founded in 1986 as Banco Internacional de Crédito as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Portuguese commercial bank Banco Espírito Santo , based in Lisbon . After establishing a branch bank in 2005 under the name Banco BIC Angola , which was equipped exclusively with Angolan capital, the company traded in Portugal as Banco BIC Português from May 2008 and is now the first and only Angolan bank on Portuguese soil. The bank is located at Rua Mouzinho da Silveira, 11-19, near Praça Marquês de Pombal .

A former branch of BPN, now Banco BIC Português in Lisbon, Saldanha.

BIC Portugal and BIC Angola have an identical shareholder structure in which the Portuguese businessman Américo Amorim has a 25 percent stake through his company. BIC Portugal sees its activity in the support of Angolan business people who want to expand from the "bridgehead" Portugal towards Europe . Furthermore, the management of Angolan financial assets on the European continent as well as the financial mediation of cash flows between Angola and Portugal are to be concentrated at the bank.

The company specializes in mortgage lending and offers companies a variety of financial products and services for real estate projects in Angola. This includes evaluating, marketing and selling these projects. BIC offers mortgage loans, building loans, finance leasing for equipment and real estate, life insurance and other insurance on the booming Angolan house and housing market. Customers include private individuals as well as medium and large companies.

In March 2012, Banco BIC bought Banco Português de Negócios (BPN) for 40 million euros.

Isabel dos Santos

The Angolan presidential daughter Isabel dos Santos owned 42.5 percent of the bank. The former Portuguese finance minister was the executive head of the EuroBic financial institution. After the Angolan public prosecutor launched an investigation into dos Santos in winter 2019/2020, it said it wanted to sell its stake in the bank. The Portuguese central bank was startled by the Luanda Leaks (NZZ) and asked the Banco BIC to provide evidence of the extent to which the bank had fulfilled its obligations in the fight against money laundering. In January 2020, the bank discontinued its business relationships with the major shareholder and its companies.

Nuno Ribeiro da Cunha, director of private banking at EuroBic, was found dead in his garage on January 25, 2020. The Portuguese police assumed suicide. The Angolan public prosecutor's office had also investigated him in connection with dos Santos.
