The Banco de la República Oriental del Uruguay is a building in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo .

The building, which was finally planned in 1921 after an international competition held in 1916 and erected from 1926 to 1938, the year of its inauguration, is located in Ciudad Vieja on Calle Cerrito 351 between Zabala and Solís streets . The architects Juan Veltroni and J. Genovese , who were awarded first prize in the previous competition, were responsible for the construction and for the final planning of the project Veltroni and Raúl Lerena Acevedo . The building, which can be classified as neoclassical, serves as the seat of the Banco de la República Oriental del Uruguay (BROU), which was founded in 1857 , and which was also the focus of its planning. The 40 meter high, seven-storey building has a floor area of ​​6708 m².

Since 1975 the building has been classified as the Monumento Histórico Nacional .

It should not be confused with the building of the same name on Avenida 18 de Julio , which houses a branch of the Banco de la República (BROU). However, its official name is Agencia 19 de Junio .
