Bancroft point

Bancroft point
methanol / chloroform

The Bancroft point is the point at which the saturation vapor pressure curves of two substances cross. Above the point another component has the higher vapor pressure than below the point. There is also talk of an inversion of the vapor pressures. The Bancroft point only occurs for components whose saturation vapor pressures are of a similar order of magnitude.

The importance of the Bancroft point is that it is a clear indication of the azeotropic behavior of a binary mixture of the two substances.
