Principle of the endless band saw blade

A band saw blade is a saw blade for a band saw . It is made of steel and is soldered or welded to form a closed ring.

For processing, it is placed around a fixed, driven roller and an adjustable roller with a clamping device and tensioned. This results in a straight cut.

The teeth are set to prevent the blade from jamming in the cutting channel . The resulting set width determines the area of application. A large cupboard width is used for soft and fresh wood or metal profiles, a small one for hard wood or steel. However, it should not be more than 1½ times the sheet thickness. The rake and clearance angle as well as the size of the chip space are selected depending on the material to be cut. To reduce vibrations, there are blades with varying tooth spacing.

The tooth tips of the band saw blades can also be made of hardened steel, HSS , hard metal or stellite , depending on the geometry and material of the material to be sawed . If teeth fitted with hard metal or stellite are wider than the carrier tape, they can be used without restriction.

Narrow band saw blades are standardized by DIN 8806. For parting and log band saws for cutting logs or planks, significantly wider and longer band saw blades are sometimes used.

The dimensions according to DIN 8806 are:

length
between 2250 mm and 8500 mm.
width
between 6.3 mm and 63 mm, whereby the smallest possible sawing radius decreases with increasing width.
Tooth shapes
Horizontal triangular tooth (NV) for fine cuts, and horizontal triangular tooth with a wide base (NU) for coarse cuts.
