In December 2002 it was placed under the Ministry of Economic Affairs . At the same time, part of the transport budget was transferred to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

In 2001 the company bought the cable network from Enitel , a subsidiary of Statnett . From this point on, BaneTele expanded its fiber optic cable inventory to around 10,000 kilometers, most of which were laid along the Norwegian railway lines.

In October 2006 the Norwegian parliament in Storting decided that Bredbåndsalliansen ( German : Broadband Alliance ) could buy 50% of the company for 635 million kroner. This alliance was a group founded by six stock corporations to promote broadband expansion. On February 26, 2009, the Norwegian state sold its remaining shares in the company to Bredbåndsalliansen (later Ventelo ). The business area was continued there as Ventelo Networks.
