Bang menu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term bang menu comes from IT . A bang menu is used when there is a button at the top level of the hierarchy of a menu . No selection with functions or other cascading menus opens, but a function of the program is executed immediately . Such buttons could be recognized by the exclamation mark at the end of the button text.

Nowadays, bang menus are mostly a thing of the past. In the past they were often used in programs for software developers. The function for compiling the source text was often implemented as a Bang menu. Such direct function calls are now implemented using toolbars .

One reason for the abolition is the fact that certain functions were called which the user did not want to execute or did not want to execute in this form, but tried to concretise this supposed menu or simply wanted to see what was actually in this “menu” “Is located. As a result of this misleading, this practice became less and less important.
