On July 10, 1970 the bank was founded under the name Bank Umum Koperasi Indonesia (abbreviated: BUKOPIN). In 1989 the money house got its current name. In 1993 the legal status was changed to a limited liability company. Four years later, the bank received a license to trade forex .
Bank Bukopin took part in the government's bank recapitalization program in 1999 , which was the first bank to be successfully completed two years later.
Since August 2007, Bank Bukopin has been listed in the Indonesian share index LQ-45 on the Jakarta Stock Exchange under the symbol BBKP .
