Dubowka ( Russian Дубовка ) is a city with 14,347 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) in the Volgograd Oblast in Russia . It is located 52 km northeast of Volgograd , on the right bank of the Volga . The nearest town is Wolschski , about 30 km as the crow flies.

history

The place was built in 1732 as a fortress; According to tradition, the name Dubowka comes from a nearby oak forest ( dub = Russian for "oak"). Initially mainly Cossacks lived here , but in 1771 many of them were expelled from here for participating in the failed Pugachev peasant uprising . Dubowka received city status in 1803, but later lost it again and only became a city again in 1925. Since then it has also been the administrative center of a Rajon of the same name .

Economy and Infrastructure

As an industrial location, Dubowka is still of no outstanding importance; In the city there are only a few food companies, a carpet factory and smaller wood and metal processing companies. In the area around the city, agriculture is mostly practiced, among other things watermelons are grown there.

Dubowka, located near Volgograd, has a landing stage on the Volga and a railway connection with direct connections to Volgograd. The latter also provides a connection to the M6 trunk road and other important traffic routes.
