Petrow Wal ( Russian Петров Вал ) is a city with 13,239 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) in the Volgograd Oblast ( Russia ).

Petrow Wal is located 185 km north of the regional capital Volgograd and around 970 km southeast of Moscow , on the left Don tributary Ilowlja . The nearest town is the Rajon -Zentrum Kamyshin , located approximately 20 km west of Petrov Val.
history
The place emerged after the 17th century, initially as a village, which owes its name to the unsuccessful construction of a canal connection between the Don and the Volga (the forerunner of today's Volga-Don Canal ) in the 1690s. Numerous artificial embankments were created in this area through excavation work, which were popularly called Peters Wall , in Russian Petrow Wal , because the canal construction was initiated by the then Tsar Peter the Great .
From the 19th century, the railway was built near Petrow Wal, which connected the place with Saratov and Volgograd, among others . In 1949 Petrov Wal became an urban-type settlement , and in 1988 it became a rajon town.

Today, Petrow Wal is a railway junction at the intersection of the Saratov – Volgograd and Tambov – Kamyshin lines with railway workshops and other rail-related companies. One kilometer north of the city is the Lebyashye military airfield .
