Serafimowitsch ( Russian Серафимович ) is a small town in the Volgograd Oblast in Russia . It is located on the right bank of the Don , 260 km northwest of the regional capital Volgograd , and has 9,368 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
history
The place was founded in 1589 as a Cossack - Stanitsa Ust-Medveditskaya, from the Medveditsa river , which flows into the Don a few kilometers west (upstream), and Russian ustje for "mouth". In 1933 he received city status and his current name in honor of the writer Alexander Serafimowitsch (1863-1949), who was born nearby.

Economy and Transport
Serafimowitsch is the center of the district of the same name ( Rajons ), which is strongly characterized by agriculture. Therefore the industry of the place is limited to food production (e.g. butter factory).
Attractions
The cityscape of Serafimowitsch is characterized to this day by old one and two-story buildings, among which there are also architectural monuments that are worth seeing. Mention should be made of the Assumption Church from 1782 and the old market square ( Базарная площадь ). Close to the city are the Savior-Transfiguration Monastery ( Спасо-Преображенский монастырь ), founded in 1652, and the Ust-Medveditski Nature Park ( Природный парк «Уксть»-Медвидициц. ).
