history

Church in Novoanninsky

The present city Novoanninsky was near an old Staniza called Annenskaja ( Анненская ), which was known since the 14th century. Originally it was inhabited by settlers mainly from the Novgorod region, who practiced fishing and hunting here.

In the late 19th century, with the laying of the railway line Lipetsk - Tsaritsyn, a new station settlement a few kilometers east of the Stanitsa was created, whose conservative residents prevented a railway connection to their place in this way. This new settlement was given the name Novoanninski , literally "New Anninsky", and in 1928 became the administrative center of the newly formed Novoanninsky district within the Volgograd Oblast. In 1956 it finally received city status.
