Monique Coleman
Monique Adrienne Coleman (born November 13, 1980 in Orangeburg , South Carolina ) is an American actress and singer . She was best known for the film High School Musical , in which she played the role of Taylor McKessie.
Career
Monique Coleman was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina and attended Heathwood Hall Episcopal School. She then attended the Theater School at DePaul University in Chicago , where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting in 2002 . At a young age she played theater and received small advertising contracts and supporting roles on television.
Coleman had her first leading role in the independent film Mother of the River in the, which was filmed in Charleston, South Carolina. The film won several awards at Chicago film festivals. Two years later Coleman took on the role of Donna in The Ditchdigger's Daughters , for which she received a Young Artists Award nomination in Hollywood . During her sophomore year in high school, she wrote the play Voices from Within , which she directed in addition to the lead role. On stage in Chicago, she played in Noises Off , Polaroid Stories , The Real Thing and The Colored Museum, among others .
In 2005 she took on a leading role as Leesha opposite James Earl Jones in the television movie The Reading Room . She received the Camie Award for this role and represented the film at the NAACP Image Awards. Also in 2006, she took on the role of Taylor McKessie in High School Musical .
In addition to filming High School Musical 2, she took on several moderation jobs for the Disney Channel and The View. High School Musical-The Senior Year followed in 2008.
In 2010 she had a guest appearance in Bones - The Bone Hunter .
