Night Watch (Babylonia)

The Babylonian term night watch was used for three periods of the night . The first night watch began with the acronychic star rise ( bararitu ), the subsequent second night watch midnight ( kablitu ) was followed by the third night watch, which began at dawn ( namaritu ). The periods of time were divided into equal hours , which were adapted to the respective season .
