Barbara Petchenik Competition

The Barbara Petchenik Competition ( Barbara Petchenik Children's World Map Competition Drawing ) is a competition for children and young people in drawing maps , which every two years by the International Cartographic Association is organized (ICA).

The competition first took place in 1993. The intention is to promote the graphic representation of the world through children's hands . Named it after Barbara Petchenik, a US - cartographer and former Vice President of the ICA. One of the main areas of her work was maps for children. It is divided into a national preliminary round and an international main round. The election and award ceremony usually take place at the regular ICC conferences .
