Barbara Soky

Barbara Soky (civil: Bara Sokorma ) is a Nigerian actress and singer .

Life

Soky's first leading role as an actress was office receptionist Rosemary Hart on the NTA series Inside Out . Originally an NTA Port Harcourt production, the sitcom gained popularity in eastern Nigeria after being broadcast on various NTA stations across the country. After the show ended, the Soky native moved to Lagos , where she starred in producer Lola Fani-Kayode's Mirror in the Sun series . Her role as Yinka Fawole , a seductive young woman, made her a national star and resulted in a commercial for Jik Bleach. Soky was part of the original Ripples line- up, playing Daphne Wellington-Cole , a successful lawyer who often fell in love with the wrong man , from 1989 to 1993 .

After a 13 year hiatus from trying her hand at being a presenter, Soky returned as Nkoyo Broderick in the Amaka Igwe production Solitaire .

In 1986 Soky released the album Going Places through PolyGram Records . She already played a singer in the sitcom Inside Out .

Awards

  • In 2013 Soky received a Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her appearance in the movie Bridge of Hope at the 2013 Nollywood Movie Awards .
  • In 2014 she was also nominated for Best Actress in Brothers Keeper at the Africa Movie Academy Awards.
