Barbarossa Spectaculum

The Barbarossa Spectaculum is a large medieval festival that takes place every two years in the moat of the Marienberg Fortress in Würzburg . It is named after the Staufer Emperor Friedrich I Barbarossa , in whose honor the first knight tournament in Germany took place in the Middle Ages.

history

The Barbarossa Spectaculum first took place in 2000. In 2006 the organizer changed, since then the festival has been organized by the Gesellschaft für Burgenmarketing mbH.

Program and offers

In addition to a medieval market with traders, craftsmen and catering providers, jugglers, minstrels and performers provide entertainment for the audience. There is a special children's program for children, which includes a storyteller, a children's blacksmith and the “children's battle”. A special highlight is the knight tournament of the internationally renowned stunt riding group Compania Ferrata.
