Barber Hauler

The barber hauler (. From English to haul pull 'also: (Fock) schotbeiholer or eingedeutscht barber hauler ) is a device on sailing boats and sailing yachts, which the sail trim of jibs used.

While without it the fulcrum point of the jib sheet cannot be adjusted or can only be adjusted in the longitudinal direction of the ship, the Barber Hauler also allows adjustment transversely. Either a short perforated rail is used for this, which is movably mounted on the usual perforated rail in the longitudinal direction transversely to the longitudinal axis of the ship, or the pulley of the haul point is connected to a rope and can be adjusted transversely to the longitudinal axis of the ship with the help of this rope.

With spinnakers , the Barber Hauler enables a more bulbous, i.e. more curved, sail shape. When there is a lot of wind, it is also used to drive the spinnaker on “short suspenders” so that the risk of violin ( swaying rolling movement of the boat) can be reduced.
