Barberyn Lighthouse is a lighthouse ( English Lighthouse ) in the Western Province of Sri Lanka . It stands on the island of Barberyn, which is part of the urban area of Beruwala . For this reason, the beacon is nationally known as the Beruwala Lighthouse ( Sinhala බේරුවල ප්රදීපාගාරය ).
The 34 m high granite tower was built during the British colonial era . There are two different details about the year of construction: 1890 and 1928.
The beacon has a fire height of 46 m and shows a white flash as an identifier with a return of 20 seconds. Operation is ensured by five beacon keepers who live in neighboring buildings on the otherwise uninhabited island.
