Barbette (fashion)
The barbette (French for small beard ) is a headgear for women that came into fashion from the middle of the 12th century: a wide band of fabric runs under the chin (chin band ) and is tucked together on the head. It is worn together with veils, crowns or other headgear. Eleanor of Aquitaine (around 1122 to 1204) is said to have
introduced the barette .
