Bare-metal restore

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bare-metal restore is a type of data backup in which all components required for restoration , such as a bootable live operating system , applications or metadata, are in a mini version on the backup medium. This makes it possible to restore systems on which the operating system no longer works or that have none installed and to set up a working computer within a very short time.

There are different approaches to such backups. One possibility is to backup directly to a bootable medium such as CD , DVD , USB stick , external hard drive and to boot from it. Another possibility is to generate a bootable medium just for the start, which then starts an application that stores the effective backed up data from e.g. B. restores a backup server.
