Bargaal (also spelled Bargal ) is a town in northeast Somalia with about 7,000 inhabitants.

It is remote on the coast in a mountainous area in the Bari region , which is part of the de facto autonomous Puntland . From the middle of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, Bargaal was the center of the dominion of the Majerteen Sultanates .

On June 1, 2007, a US warship fired on suspected al-Qaeda targets in Bargaal. Previously, on May 30, a dozen to 35 foreign fighters had arrived in the area with speedboats from southern Somalia and fought with local troops. A dozen people were killed in these military actions, according to the Puntland regional government, including at least six Islamists from Great Britain, the USA, Sweden, Pakistan and Yemen; five soldiers on the government side were injured and the Islamists were defeated.
