history

The first Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo (617–650) had the Jokhang Temple built in 647. Because of its splendor, it quickly attracted thousands of Buddhist pilgrims, thus creating a path that laid the foundation stone for Barkhorstrasse. Many pilgrims walked and walked clockwise through Barkhorstrasse. Thus it developed more and more into the commercial center of the city.
