Projects in Thailand, Guatemala, Belize and Ecuador are supported. A total of around 450 km² of rainforest have been protected. Most of the fundraising events take place in Sweden, but also in Germany and the United States.

history

The founding of the organization was inspired by the efforts of nine-year-old elementary school student Roland Tiensuu, his teacher Eha Kern and her husband Bern Kern. In 1987 Eha Kern invited an American biologist to her school in Fagerviks in Sorunda ( Nynäshamn parish) to show them pictures of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The lecture was given in the context of the topic of the destruction of the rainforests. He made a big impression on the children. Roland Tiensuu suggested that he and his classmates raise funds for the reservation. They started with a cake sale. With that four hectares of rainforest could be bought. The children raised additional money by selling cards, pictures and handicrafts. Soon afterwards, money was being raised for the rainforest in thousands of schools and churches in Sweden. With this the Barnens Regnskog Organization was founded.

The Barnens Regnskog rainforest reserve was opened in 1989 in the Monteverde Reserve. Today it covers an area of 300 km².
