Goldman Environmental Prize
The Goldman Environmental Prize is an environmental award .
It has been given annually since 1990 to six “environmental heroes” of the grassroots movement . One award winner from Africa, Asia, Europe, islands and island states, North America and South and Central America is honored. Some islands are also assigned to the closest continent, for example Japan to Asia or Ireland to Europe.
Originally the prize was endowed with 60,000 dollars, now the prize money is 150,000 dollars. In addition to this cash prize, each winner receives a bronze sculpture depicting the Ouroboros . The award was donated by the US entrepreneur Richard Goldman ( Goldman Insurance Services ) and his wife Rhoda.
