Juan Pablo Orrego (Cologne, 2010)

Juan Pablo Orrego (* 1949 ) is a Chilean ecologist and musician.

Juan Pablo Orrego founded the Grupo de Acción por el Biobío ( GABB ) with other colleagues (including Rodrigo Garretón Kralemann, Cristián Opazo and Dario Jana-Castro) in order to prevent an ecologically questionable dam project (including the Ralco dam ) on the Río Bío Bío . that would have led to the expulsion of the Pehuenche Indians. The initiative became the foundation for a human rights and environmental movement in the young democracy after the military dictatorship and triggered a nationwide discussion on alternative development.
