Baron Ampthill
Baron Ampthill , of Ampthill in the County of Bedford , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award
The title was created for Sir Odo Russell on March 11, 1881 . At the time, he was the UK's ambassador in Berlin, after having been the unofficial ambassador to the Vatican for many years . He was a grandson of John Russell, 6th Duke of Bedford - the barons are therefore also in the line of succession for this Dukedom including the subordinate titles.
