Baron Arklow

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Baron Arklow was a hereditary British title of nobility awarded twice in the Peerage of the United Kingdom . The title is named after the town of Arklow in County Wicklow , Ireland .

Award

The title was first given on November 27, 1801 together with the parent titles Duke of Sussex and Earl of Inverness to Prince Augustus Frederick , the sixth son of King George III. awarded. Since he did not leave a legitimate heir, his nobility titles were extinguished on his death on April 21, 1843.

In the second award, the title was bestowed on May 24, 1881 together with the parent titles Duke of Albany and Earl of Clarence to Prince Leopold , the fourth son of Queen Victoria . His son Carl Eduard was stripped of the title in 1919 due to the Titles Deprivation Act of 1917, as he had fought on Germany's side against England in the First World War.
