Baron Cranworth

Baron Cranworth is a hereditary British title of nobility awarded twice in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award

For the first time on December 20, 1850 the title of Baron Cranworth , of Cranworth in the County of Norfolk , was bestowed on the jurist and liberal politician Sir Robert Rolfe . The title expired on his death on July 26, 1868.

In the second bestowal, the title of Baron Burton , of Letton and Cranworth in the County of Norfolk, was created on January 28, 1899 for the former member of the House of Commons Robert Gurdon . Today's title holder has been his great-grandson Philip Gurdon as 3rd Baron since 1964 . The family seat of the barons is Grundisburgh Hall near Woodbridge in Suffolk .
